John B. Rhodes2 (Alex.1) was born September 9, 1808 in Tennessee, and died May 5, 1880. He married a woman named Jane whose maiden name is not known. She was born March 1, 1810 in Tennessee and died January 26, 1878. |

William R. Rhodes3 (John B.2, Alex.1) was born April 1, 1832 in Illinois, and died January 17, 1873. He married Lucinda Rhodes on April 8, 1852 in Fayette County, Illinois. She was born in Illinois in about 1834; she was 26 years of age when the Macoupin County, Illinois 1860 Census was taken. Her parents have not been identified. After William R. Rhodes's death, James W. Smith, husband of William's sister, Martha Anna Irene, applied for guardianship of his son McComas Rhodes, and McComas was living in with his family when the Macoupin County 1880 Census was taken. John A. Rhodes was living with the next family listed which was that of his uncle, Isaac Alexander Holland Rhodes. |

Newton C. Rhodes3 (John B.2, Alex.1) was born November 8, 1836 in Illinois. He was married twice. First to Laura Ann Farrar, on March 16, 1859, and to his second wife, Mary Jane (Smith) Duncan on November 5, 1867. Both marriages took place in Macoupin County, Illinois. Mary Jane was living with her son, Charles Franklin Rhodes, in Montgomery County, Illinois when the 1900 census was taken. She was born in Illinois in November 1842 according to the census report that year. The family was living in Litchfield Township, Montgomery County, Illinois in 1870, and in Macoupin County, Illinois in 1880. We have record of five children for Newton and his second wife, Mary Jane Smith. Mary Jane was previously married to a Mr. Duncan. The fourth and fifth children of Newton and Mary Jane were twins who were designated as Mary's 13th and 14th children in the record of their births; however, we don't know how many children Mary Jane may have had by her first husband. |

Louisa "Liza" Rhodes3 (John B.2, Alex.1) was born February 7, 1839 in Illinois, and died 20 Aug 1884. She married William Russell Smith on October 21, 1858 in Macoupin County, Illinois. He was born in March 1837 in Illinois. They were living in Macoupin County, Illinois when the 1860 census was taken and in Madison County, Illinois, at the time of the 1880 census. They apparently had additional children because their son Thomas Shirley Smith was listed as the 12th child on his birth record. |
