|
Thomas Wooten Harris3 (Zach.2, Isaac1) was born February 1, 1816 in Humphreys County, Tennessee, and moved to Fayette County, Illinois in about 1829 with his parents. He was married seven times, and had children by four of his wives. He and his first wife, Armenia Angelina Ishmael, were married on May 16, 1834 in Montgomery County, Illinois. They had three children. She was the daughter of J. D. and Elizabeth Ishmael. Her parents were named in their marriage record. (Note: Fayette County Estate Box 168: "Elizabeth Ishmael died 30 Sep 1854. The following heirs relinquished their right to administer: Wooten Harris, John H Ishmael, James M. Ishmael, Benjamin R. Ishmael, George W. Ishmael. There was a judgment against "J. D. and Elizabeth Ishmael..." Wooten and his second wife, Anna Pinson, had six children. He married his third wife, Elizabeth (Massey) Virdin, on November 23, 1854 in Fayette County, Illinois. She was the widow of John Virdin, and the daughter of Burwell Jackson and Keziah Massey. Elizabeth was born in Illinois in 1823; she was age 37 when the Shelby County, Illinois 1860 Census was taken. Wooten and Elizabeth were the parents of five children. Wooten married his fourth wife, Mrs. Mary E. (Chumley) Thacker, August 12, 1875 in Montgomery County, Illinois. She was the widow of George Bluford Thacker whom she married February 9, 1854 in Montgomery County, Illinois. Note: On the record received from Don Corbett, her name is given as "Mary Thacker nee Wilson," but when her daughter was married she gave her mother's maiden name as "Chumley." She may have been previously married to a Mr. Wilson. Wooten and Mary did not remain married very long. In 1880 Wooten Harris was living with one of his children in Christian County, Illinois, and Mary was in Montgomery County where she was listed as a widow with six children: "Mary Thacker, 47, born TN." Her oldest son was "George Thacker, age 21," and the youngest was "Ida, age 4." This last child was born after her marriage to Wooten Harris; and, when Ida married, her name was given as Ida Harris. Wooten married his fifth wife, Mrs. Martha A. Farris, in Wilson County, Kansas, on March 24, 1878; he was age 62 and she was age 51. Wooten married his sixth wife, Melinda (Stant) Whitesides, on January 16, 1881. (Note; Don Corbett record gave her name as "Whitesides nee Flagerty"). Wooten married Elender (King) Pinson on February 9, 1893. These last two marriages took place in Fayette County, Illinois after marriage applications were required. As a result, we now know his mother's maiden name, "Bathsheba Haley." Before these records were found, she was known on our family records as "Basby" and her maiden name was thought to be Lloyd. The Thomas Wooten Harris family was living in Fayette County, Illinois when the 1840 census was taken, in Montgomery County, Illinois at the time of the 1850 census, in the South District of Shelby County, Illinois when enumerated for the 1860 census, and in Ramsey, Hurricane Township, Fayette County, Illinois during the 1870 census. |
