Descendants of Zachariah Harris, Jr.Chapter 5 of Part VIII, Descendants of Zachariah HarrisBy Garda M. Hodgson |
|
Zachariah Harris, Jr.3 (Zach.2, Isaac1) was born December 30, 1805 in Franklin County, Georgia. His birthdate was obtained by correspondence with one of his descendants, Shirley M. Stafford, of Helena, Montana. The record was from her Family Bible. Zachariah moved with his parents first to Hickman County then to Humphreys County, Tennessee. He married Sarah Jane "Jincy" Rhodes on January 30, 1822 while his family was still living in Humphreys County. Her parents have not been identified. Zachariah and Jincy were the parents of one child. After they moved to Illinois, they joined the Liberty Baptist Church in Bingham, Fayette County, Illinois, on the "3rd Saturday in July 1837." This is the last record we found that was made while Jincy was alive. She must have died shortly after this. Zachariah married Elmira Freeman Foster on February 15, 1838 in Madison County, Illinois. Elmira was born October 17, 1807 in Maine, the daughter of Oliver Foster and Hannah Eldred. She was the widow of William Heath who died February 1, 1836 in Madison County, leaving her with six children, who were all born in, Madison County, Illinois. They are: 1. Oliver Sebastian Heath b 19 July 1825, d 31 Aug 1826; 2. Mary Ann Hendrickson Heath b 10 Jul 1827, m 3 May 1836 Daniel Hitt Warner; 3. Aurora Melissa Heath b 18 Dec 1828; 4. Melvina Jane Heath b 12 Sep 1830, m 13 Jan 1848 Montgomery County, Illinois, John Craig; 5. Dan Alonzo Heath b 25 Dec 1832; and 6. James Heath b 30 Mar 1834. The Zachariah Harris family lived in Madison County, Illinois when the 1840 census was taken and in Montgomery County, Illinois at the time of the 1850 census. |

Sarah Green Harris4 (Zachariah Jr.3, Zach.2, Isaac1) was born January 14, 1823 in Humphreys County, Tennessee. She married Robert Craig, son of Thomas Craig, Jr., (1762-1840), and grandson of Thomas Craig, Sr., Revolutionary War Soldier, on December 27, 1840 in Fayette County, Illinois. They lived in Fayette County when the 1855 Illinois State Census was taken, and Hurricane Township, Fayette County, at the time of the 1860 Federal Census. They moved to Wilson County, Kansas before 1870, about the same time as the Gilbert Harris family and other descendants of Zachariah Harris moved there. The following notes are from the Wilson County Probate Journal January 2, 1871: "Estate of Sarah Craig, Dec'd, for sum of $25.00 for services about sale of real estate". Also October 3, 1871 W. H. Morgan, administer of estate of Robert Craig, dec'd, makes annual settlement. Final settlement was made on April 26,1873. The minor heirs of Robert and Sarah Craig were named in Wilson County, Estate Records From Probate Judge's Files Vol 1 on May 12, 1870. |
