Descendants of William Ancil HarrisChapter 2.6 of Part VIII, Descendants of Zachariah HarrisBy Garda M. Hodgson |
|
William Ancil Harris4 (Ancil M. Harri3, Zach2, Isaac1) was born August 1, 1829 in Fayette County, Illinois, and died in 1869 in Sebastian County, Arkansas. He married Lydia Angelet Lipsey, daughter of William Lipsey and Mary Francis, on January 27, 1852 in Shelby County, Illinois. She was born April 19, 1832 in Johnson County, Indiana. Most of the information on the descendants on this line were received by correspondence with Charles Ferguson, a great grandson of William Ancil Harris. He informed me that the family moved to Wise County, Texas, in 1857. William was in the Civil War. According to family tradition, he was captured by the Southern Army, tried and convicted, and was stood on his coffin to be shot, but Captain Doggett pled for his life. He was spared and put to sixty days duty fighting Indians. |
