|
James Harris3 (Reuben2, Isaac1) was born May 18, 1810 in Jackson County, Tennessee. His father's family moved from Greenville County, South Carolina to Tennessee some time between 1800 and 1810. The first census taken in Tennessee was in 1820. He married Judah "Judy" Bohanon, daughter of Louis Bohanon and Lucy Lowry while they were living there. She was born July 14, 1810 in Tennessee. They moved to McDonough County, Illinois in the late 1820's at about the same time as his father's family then relocated to Lee County, Iowa shortly before 1844. In about 1852, they made their home in Madison Township, Wayne County, Iowa, where they lived the rest of their lives. Their family was included in the Wayne County, Iowa 1856 state census record. The county of birth for those who were born in Iowa was included in this record. James died November 1, 1865, and Judah died March 19, 1877. They both died in Wayne County, and were buried in the Harris Cemetery which is located in Madison Township, Wayne County, Iowa. The following list of their twelve children was received from a descendant; however the 1830 and 1840 census records indicate there should be two more boys who were born between child number three, Frances, and child number six, Andrew Jackson. They have been added to this record. |

Lewis B. Harris4 (Jas Harris3, Reuben2, Isaac1) was born February 1, 1828 in White County, Tennessee. He died February 25, 1907, and was buried in Harris Cemetery, Wayne County, Iowa. It appears that he may have been named for his grandfather, Louis Bohanon, even though their given names are spelled differently. Lewis married Elizabeth Joiner on July 11, 1852 in Jefferson County, Iowa. They were living in Monroe Township, Wayne County, Iowa, when the 1856 State census was taken, and also when the 1860 federal census was taken. They were living in Fountain Green Township, Hancock County, Illinois in 1870, then were back in Monroe Township, Wayne County, Iowa in 1880, and 1900. |

They were married on December 20, 1885 in Wayne County, Iowa. His second wife, Mary E., later married David Batterson, son of James Batterson and Polly Squires, on November 16, 1898 in Wayne County, Iowa.
