Leah "Lear" Harris3 (Benj.2, Isaac1) was born in about 1800 in Greenville County, South Carolina, and died March 11, 1844, at age 44, in Fulton County, Illinois. She was buried in Lacy Cemetery, at Table Grove, Fulton County, Illinois. She married William Rutledge in Tennessee. He was born in about 1790 in South Carolina, and died September 14, 1851. The family record of this family was sent to me by Bob Harding of Galesburg, Illinois. He is the great grandson of child #10, James Silas Rutledge. Additional records were found in the Ancestral File of the LDS Family History Library on this family and their descendants. The record for child #2, Ruth Rutledge, found there gave her complete date of birth as "9 Apr 1818" instead of "about 1820" as sent by Bob Harding. This changed the order of birth of the children and suggests that the November 1818 birthdate of child #3 Elizabeth, may be in error. Her birthdate may have come from a 1900 census which gives the month and year of birth for persons included in it. My experience has been that the year of birth given in that census may be slightly in error so this prompted my reevaluation of the birth order of the children. Using the 1830 census of White County, Tennessee as a guide, I renumbered the children to fit the age distribution of the children given in that census. There were one male and two females age 10-15, two males and one female age 5-10, and one male and one female under age 10 in the William Rutledge family that year. Thus Perrin, Ruth, and Matilda were in the 10-15 age group, Elizabeth, William, and Elijah were in the 5-10 age group, leaving John Henry and Sarah Anne in the under age 10 group. |
