Descendants of William HarrisChapter 1 of Part IV, Descendants of Benjamin HarrisBy Garda M. Hodgson |
|
William Harris3 (Benjamin2, Isaac1) was born June 11, 1791 in Greenville County (then the Pendleton District), South Carolina. He died before April 25, 1834. He married Betsy, whose maiden name is unknown. His father, Benjamin Harris, left his wife, Betsy, $100.00 "for the support and maintenance of her children by her husband, William Harris." This seems very strange! William must have been deceased at that time or Benjamin would have left his inheritance to William instead of his wife; but why didn"t he refer to Betsy as William"s "widow" instead of his "wife?" I suspect that it was just an oversight. I can't imagine that he would leave his son's inheritance to his daughter-in-law if his son were living. According to the 1858 letter written by B. F. Harris to his nephew, Wm. J. Harris, "William was the oldest, his family was in Tennessee when I heard from them ten or twelve years ago." Other than this, we have not found any further record of William or his family. This page is reserved for further information. If you know of someone who may be a descendant of William and Betsy Harris, please have them contact the Webmaster (see note below). [The webmaster is a descendant of William's younger brother, Silas.] |
