Mary Harris3 (Wooten Harris2, Isaac1) was born April 11, 1803, in Rutherford County, North Carolina, and died September 1, 1878. She married James Jordan, son of John and Jane Jordan, on February 20, 1823, in Hickman County, Tennessee. The name was originally spelled "Jordan;" however, the descendants in Illinois usually spelled the name "Jerdan" or "Jerden". James was born in about 1798 in North Carolina. They moved to Illinois at about the same time as Mary's parents, and settled at Bingham, Fayette County, Illinois in 1827. The will of James Jordan/Jerdan was probated on March 10, 1843, in Fayette County, Illinois. James and Mary were buried in Pope Cemetery, South Hurricane Township, Fayette County, Illinois. |

Sarah Jerdan4 (Mary Harris3, Wooten2, Isaac1) was born August 14, 1824, in Hickman County, Tennessee. She married Joseph Edward Chumley on November 10, 1844, in Fayette County, Illinois. He was born in Virginia in about 1818; he was age 32 in 1850 according to the census of Montgomery County, Illinois that year. |

John F. Chumley5 (Sarah Jerdan4, Mary Harris3, Wooten2, Isaac1) was born in Montgomery County, Illinois in about 1847; he was age 3 when the census was taken in 1850. He married Amanda Clementine Davis, daughter of Eliphas Davis and Angeline Harriet Halford, on April 17, 1873 in Fayette County, Illinois. She was born May 2, 1855 in Illinois, and died October 10, 1882, at age 26 years, 6 months, and 12 days. He and his second wife, Della F. Dixon, daughter of George F. Dixon and Mary Taylor, were married on October 28, 1885 in Montgomery County, Illinois. She was born in Pike County, Illinois, in about 1867; she was age 43 when the census was taken in 1910. They were living in Fayette County, Illinois, when the censuses were taken in 1880 and 1910. He and Della had 11 children before 1910. Nine of them were living at that time, however only eight were living at home. |

Alexander Monroe Jerdan4, (Mary Harris3, Wooten2, Isaac1) was born April 23, 1827, in Hickman County, Tennessee and died February 16, 1842 in Fayette County, Illinois. He married Anna Jane Prater, daughter of Bazil K. Prater and Sarah Merrill. She was born October 23, 1829, in Warren County, Kentucky, and died August 27, 1889 in Fayette County, Illinois. He married a second wife, Frances Priscilla [Sears] Hicks on June 17, 1885 in Fayette County, Illinois. She was the widow of Jefferson Hicks, and daughter of John Sears and Emily Pope. She was born March 14, 1844 in Warren County, Kentucky, and died May 24, 1932 in Fayette County, Illinois. Alexander and his first wife, Anna, were buried in Pope Cemetery, Hurricane Township, Fayette County, Illinois. The surname "Jerdan" is also spelled "Jordan" in some records. |

She was 20 years of age when the 1870 census was taken, and died in 1926. She married Eliphas Riley Davis, son of Eliphas R. Davis and Angeline Harriet Halford, on December 19, 1869, in Fayette County, Illinois. He was born August 3, 1845, in Illinois. He died November 3, 1873, and was buried in Old Hurricane Cemetery, Montgomery County, Illinois. She and her second husband, Pleasant Frank Carlock, son of Isaac Carlock and Lucinda D. Scribner, were married February 11, 1875, in Fayette County, Illinois. He was born on October 26, 1840, in Fayette County, and died on March 12, 1934. They were living in Hurricane Township, Fayette County, Illinois when the censuses were taken in 1880 and 1900. |

Matthews, son of James Berry Matthews and Martha Cline, on February 25, 1897 in Fayette County, Illinois. He was born in October, 1873 in Fayette County, Illinois. They were living in East Fork Township, Montgomery County, Illinois when the census was taken in 1900, and 1910. In 1900 she had two children; one was living. |

James Basil Jerdan5 (Alex. M4., Mary Harris3, Wooten2, Isaac1) was born March 16, 1854 in Hurricane Township, Fayette County, Illinois, and died there on January 14, 1908. James was married twice. He married Margaret Arminda Prater, daughter of Holloway Sears Prater and Siner Casey, on October 12, 1879, in Fayette County, Illinois. She was born September 9, 1851, in Fayette County, and died there on February 9, 1904. Their children were born in a farm house located about one mile south of Bingham on an 80 acre farm which was given to Margaret A. Prater by her father Holloway Sears Prater upon her marriage. Three of the children of their daughter, Jennie, and Homer Donaldson were also born there. Both James and Margaret were buried in Liberty Cemetery, Fayette County, Illinois. James's second wife, Laura J. (Rush) Nichols, had a son, Fred Nichols, by a previous marriage, who was age seven when the 1910 census for Witt Township, Montgomery County, Illinois, was taken. |

He married Susan Lovegrove, daughter of James Lovegrove and Priscilla Morris, on October 3, 1878, Fayette County, Illinois. She was born February 22, 1863, in Fayette County, Illinois. William's second marriage was to Ida Beardon Jackson, widow of W. J. Jackson. They lived in Bingham, Fayette County, Illinois, when 1900 census was taken. |

Nancy Ellen Jerdan5 (Alex. M4., Mary Harris3, Wooten2, Isaac1) was born May 28, 1860 in Fayette County, Illinois. She married Henry Carter, son of William Carter and Malinda J. Dodson, on December 5, 1875 in St. Louis, Missouri. He died April 6, 1885. Nancy then married Benjamin Isaac Stricklin, son of John Stricklin and Ellen Marrice, on June 4, 1885 in Montgomery County, Illinois. He was born in Washington County, Illinois. His birth and death dates on his tombstone in Ramsey Cemetery, are: "Born 1858, Died 1940." Nancy died January 19, 1931 in Springfield, Sangamon County, Illinois. They were buried in Ramsey Cemetery, Ramsey Township, Fayette County, Illinois. They were living in Sharon Township, Fayette County, Illinois when the census was taken in 1880. On February 15, 1912, the Ramsey News Journal reported that "Mr. and Mrs. Ben Stricklin left for Decatur, where they will make their new home." |

He was married three times. He married his first wife, Rebecca M. Davis, daughter of Daniel Washington Davis and Elizabeth Ann Clark, on October 11, 1883 in Fayette County, Illinois. She was born March 11, 1864 in Montgomery County, Illinois, and died February 26, 1906. John and Rebecca were buried in Liberty Cemetery, Fayette County, Illinois. After Rebecca's death, John married Mrs. Mary Patton; they had one child. His third wife was Priscilla Sears; they had no children. |

They were buried in Stewardson Cemetery, Stewardson, Shelby County, Illinois. |

His first wife and mother of his known children was Nellie E. Wegehoft, daughter of Henry Wegehoft and Hannah Detmer. She was born February 20, 1886 in Meredosia, Morgan County, Illinois, and died November 10, 1918 in Granite City, Madison County, Illinois. She died of influenza following childbirth. Fred and Nellie were buried in St. John's Cemetery, Granite City, Madison County, Illinois. Fred's second wife was Lucile Kelley. |

She was born May 27, 1869 in Fayette County, Illinois, and died February 12, 1959 in Montgomery County, Illinois. They were buried in Glendale Cemetery, Fillmore, Montgomery County, Illinois. They were living in Hurricane Township, Fayette County, Illinois, when the 1900 and 1910 censuses was taken. |

She married James Brown Breeze, son of James Breeze and Charity Spivey, on December 4, 1850, in Fayette County, Illinois. He was born March 20, 1828, in Orange County, Indiana. After Caroline died, he married Mary L. Augustine as his second wife. He married his third wife, Elizabeth (Cole) Cunningham, on June 22, 1880, in Fayette County, Illinois. She was born about 1841, the daughter of Lyttleton Cole and Anna Wakefield. He died April 21, 1914, and was buried at Vandalia, Fayette County, Illinois. |

She married Henry Ebelmesser, who was the first blacksmith at St. Elmo, Fayette County, Illinois. They were married on January 1, 1872 in Fayette County, Illinois. He was born in Germany in about 1836; he was 44 years of age when the Fayette County, Illinois 1880 Census was taken for the village of Avena. Mary died in 1890. |

He had a twin sister, Carrie Harriet Breeze. He married Adella Belt Cochran, daughter of Robert Cochran and Elizabeth Belt, on September 20, 1885 in Fayette County, Illinois. She was born April 2, 1864 in Fayette County, Illinois, and died December 6, 1951 at St. Elmo, Fayette County, Illinois. He married a second wife whose given name was Elizabeth J., but her surname is unknown. |

Jacob Hicks February 25, 1852, in Fayette County. He
was born January 4, 1831, in Benton County, Tennessee, the oldest
son of Lewis Hicks and Jane Lloyd. The Lewis Hicks family moved
to Fayette County, Illinois, and three of Jacob Hicks's brothers
and one sister intermarried with descendants of the Harris family.

James Martin Jerdan4 (Mary Harris3, Wooten2, Isaac1) was born August 13, 1856, in Bingham, Fayette County, Illinois. He married Theresa "Thurza" Rhodes, daughter of Thomas Rhodes2 (Alex.1) and Penina Tancil, on April 22, 1858, in Fayette County, Illinois. Her name has been spelled various ways but it was written Theresa in her obituary, so that is the spelling I have chosen to use. She was born November 11, 1839, in Illinois. James died January 10, 1865, in a prison camp during the Civil War. Theresa married, second, John Casey, Jr., son of John Casey, Sr., and Drucilla Hill, on April 7, 1868, in Fayette County, Illinois. He was born July 21, 1812, and died February 16, 1897. He was buried in Casey Cemetery, Hurricane Township, Fayette County, Illinois. They had nine children. Theresa died March 14, 1913, and was buried in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Fayette County, Illinois. Theresa's other children are listed under her name in Part IX, Chapter 3, Descendants of Thomas Rhodes. |

He was first married on February 18, 1880 in Fayette County, Illinois, to Josephine E. Halford , daughter of Andrew Wilson HALFORD 4 (Eliz. Harris3, Wooten2, Isaac 1) and Linza Eleanor LEIGH. She was born in March, 1864 in Christian County, Illinois, and died in 1959. She was buried in Ramsey Cemetery, Fayette County, Illinois. His second marriage was to Luella Floy Prater, daughter of Thomas Basil Prater and Hester Ann Halford5 (Andrew W.4, Eliz. Harris3, Wooten2, Isaac 1); they had no children. |

Her second husband was Wooten Whitfield Halford4, son of Elizabeth Harris3 (Wooten2, Isaac1), and Andrew Halford. Wooten was born December 18, 1823 in Wayne County, Tennessee. He died on January 30, 1886, in Fillmore, Montgomery County, Illinois. Her third marriage, on March 13, 1911 in Montgomery County, Illinois, was to William Marble Harris 4, son of William B. Harris3 (Wooten2, Isaac1) and Sarah Dodson. He was born in March, 1828, in Fayette County, Illinois, and died on March 12, 1911, in Montgomery County, Illinois. William and Martha had no children. |
