Mary A. "Polly" Hicks⁴ (Catherine Harris³, Wooten², Isaac¹) was born March 16, 1824, in Maury County, Tennessee, and died December 12, 1897. She married Alfred Greenberry Harris⁴, son of Ancil Mancil Harris³ (Zach.², Isaac¹), and Keziah Veach, on October 1, 1843, in Fayette County, Illinois. He was born May 30, 1822, in Humphreys County, Tennessee, and died March 16, 1849, in Fayette County, Illinois. Mary then married James Ewing Rhodes, son of   Alexander Rhodes and Elizabeth Pettitte, on October 12, 1858, in Fayette County, Illinois. He was born March 21, 1818, and died December 3, 1897, in Fayette County, Illinois. Mary was his second wife. He was married previously to Elizabeth Reeves; their children are listed under his name in Part IX, Chapter 6 - Descendants of James Erving Rhodes . Descendants of Mary and her first husband, Alfred G. Harris, are listed under his name in Part VIII, Chapter 2.2, Descendants of Alfred Greenberry Harris.

He married Settie Sarah Beck, daughter of Nathaniel Beck and Sarah Matthews, on February 21, 1884, in Fayette County, Illinois. She was born in January, 1862, and died in 1931. The date of her birth was given in the Fayette County, Illinois 1900 census for Hurrricane Township. They were buried in Little Hickory Cemetery, Fayette County, Illinois.

He married Mary Jane Merriman, daughter of Mathias Ferrin "King" Merriman and Harriet Culbertson. Mary Jane was born in January, 1871 in Fayette County, Illinois, and died there in 1947. They were buried in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Fayette County, Illinois.

   Services for Mrs. Lilly May Cole of Nokomis were held Wednesday Jan 9, at 1 p.m. in Sutton Funeral home there, with the Rev. Harold Wise officiating. Burial was in Nokomis Cemetery. Mrs. Cole, age 89 last June 10, died Jan. 6, at 4:30 p.m. in Golden Manor nursing home in Nokomis.
   
   Born in Ramsey, a daughter of the late Thomas and Mary Marman (sic) [Merriman] Rhodes, she married Ernest Cole there on July 14, 1914. He died in 1946.
   
   Mrs. Cole was a member of the First Baptist Church at Nokomis. She is survived by three sons, and three daughters, Victor Cole of Ramsey, Claud, Reuben and Mrs. Verner (sic) [Verna] Eller, all of Nokomis, Mrs. Gladys Roe of Centralia, and Mrs. Martha Sides of Mt. Olive, with 15 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were two brothers, two sisters, one son and one granddaughter.

   Matt F. Rhodes, 74, of Ramsey, was dead on arrival 2 p.m. Friday at Pana Community Hospital. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Miller funeral Home, Ramsey, where friends may call after 5 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be at Mt. Carmel Cemetery, near Ramsey.
   
   He was born in Fayette County, the son of Thomas and Mary Rhodes. He is a retired farmer and a member of the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. He married Viola Leigh April 7, 1920. She died September 22, 1954. He then married Gertrude Sanders Oct. 17, 1955. Surviving are his wife; daughter Mrs. Clarence (Velma) Walker of Tower Hill; six step children, sister, Mrs. Lillie Cole of Nokomis; three grandchildren; ... three great grand children.

She was born February 26, 1874, Fayette County, Illinois, and died December 19, 1943. They were buried in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Fayette County, Illinois.
