He married Tempa Elizabeth Ledbetter, daughter of Jonathan LEDBETTER and Nancy WELLS, on March 3, 1861. She was born May 13, 1838 and died November 6, 1914 at Montford's Cove. They were buried in the Montford's Cove Cemetery, Rutherford County, North Carolina.

She was born January 20, 1859 in Montford's Cove, McDowell County, North Carolina, and died September 30, 1941. He was previously married to Lethea S. Wilkerson, daughter of Andrew and Sophia Wilkerson. Electra and Leander were buried in Montford's Cove Cemetery, Rutherford County, North Carolina.
